Enabling and Inspiring People Through Everyday Leadership

The emergence of digital technology has changed how everyone operates. The fast-changing business landscape is no exception, and as far as Globe Telecom is handling its people, it’s about building talents and inspiring its people to continue succeeding in all fronts.

For this, Globe Telecom has created in 2014 with Management Strategies a program called Everyday Leadership. Everyday Leadership is performance management in action, centered on six key collective behaviors, namely: inspiring purpose, collaboration, driving performance, daily “kumustahan,” feedback and coaching, and building talent.

Inspiring purpose involves how leaders inspire their people to discover their purpose and live this within Globe.

Collaboration involves how a leader prompts action through alignment of goals vertically and horizontally.

The third action involves knowing the people under a leader and applying the appropriate leadership style in order to drive performance.

This is followed by daily “kumustahan,” a simple act of checking on one’s followers in order to understand and clarify expectations and engage in development discussions with each other while building rapport within the workplace.

The next action is giving feedback and coaching to increase self-awareness to ultimately drive better performance.

Building talent involves owning and acting on one’s individual development plan, anchored on one’s purpose to eventually fulfill his aspiration, as one grows in Globe, following a 70-20-10 plan. It follows the principles of being employee-owned, leader-led, and HR-enabled.

The program also has a teach-back feature wherein participants share the things that they have learned to their subordinates and peers.

“The everyday Globe leader is expected to demonstrate all of these key collective behaviors. It begins with one leader and then it multiplies. As more leaders engage in role modeling these six key collective behaviors with performance management at its heart, it then becomes a culture. And that culture translates into a performing organization,” said Alex Salud, Jr., Director for

Leadership Development of the Leadership and Talent Management Division of Globe’s Human Resources Group.

The result: people are more inspired, more open, subordinates are not afraid to talk to their supervisors or managers, and tasks are easily delivered across the organization, centered on Globe’ values and purpose.
